The natural essential oils are very strong
substances that should be used according to precise istructions.
There are basically two main ways of administration: internal
- that is oral consumption, and external - that is through
epidermic absortion , inhalation, baths , massages, frictions,
fomentation.
The oral consumption
The oral consumption has to be dome under medical control
because the contact with the digestive mucosa can cause an
irritant reaction. Moreover the dosage has to be measured carefully
in order to avoid acute and chronic intoxication.
The oral consumption must be taken into consideration only
when it is strictly necessary and only in the treatment of
some real disease, while the prevention, the energetic stimulation
and the body vitalizing can be obtained with the external
consumption through baths , frictions , massages, inhalation
and so on.
The external consumption
The external consumption is mostly used because of its manageability
and safety. Moreover with the local consumtpion the essences
penetrate immediately through the skin and have a direct effect
on the organs below the application area , without overloading
the internal organs such as liver and digestive mucosa as
it happens when the essences are taken orally.
Massages
The pure essential oils are concentrated strong substances.
Before bringing them into contact with the skin, they must
be diluted with a precious oil that helps their application
and avoids a cutaneous reaction.
For the massage , one or more essences have to be added to
a base oil that act as a carrier on the skin, dilute the essence
to avoid irritative reactions and enable the massage.
Bath
For an aromatic bath the water temperature must be hot , but
not overly so . The essences have to be added immediately
before getting into the bathtub, after they have been appropriately
treated and made water- soluble to achieve the highest effect
produced by the evaporation of the volatile components. You
should add 4-5 drops of the essence for a middle sized bathtub.
To obtain the best effect before the bath you should do first
an exfoliating peeling to remove the dead cells and to enable
a better functionality of the essential oils.
Shower
Pour 3 or 4 drops of essences on a wet sponge glove and rub.
Compresses
Drip some drops of essences which are already water-soluble
in a cup with hot or cold water , according to the needs:
hot water for muscular pains and cold water for sprain, fever,
cephalea.
Drip a ganze into the water, wring it gently out and apply
it to the concerned area. When the ganze becomes hot or cold,
change it.
Evaporation
Drip some drops of essence on an essence diffuser made of
a heat source ( candle) with above a small bowl with water
inside. Under the action of the heat the water evaporates
and the essence becomes volatile. You can also drip some drops
of essence on a humidifier or on a spray nebulizer. The nebulization
of essences with a high antiseptic power in the environment
is particularly useful in the rooms of sick people to purify
the air. It is a good habit to put some drops of essence in
the humidifier water to prevent cold, flu , bronchitis or
diseases on the respiratory tract.
Fomentation and inhalation
dd some drops of essences to a hot water basin , cover completely
your head with a towel and then breathe : this is particularly
useful for the treatment of disease of the respiratory tract
( cold, cough, catarrh, throat sore) It can also be used as
beauty treatment for the skin on the face.
Friction
Use some drops of essence on a alcoholic basis and do a massage
on the area of the sick organ ( for example on the chest in
case of cough or bronchitis) till the area becomes warm..
Vaginal irrigations
Add some drops of essence to boiled water and wait some minutes
till it becomes cold. This is useful for vaginal washing and
clyster.
Rinse and gargle
Add the essence to a glass of boiled water for rinses or gargles
in case of inflammation of the mouth and throat mucosa.
