Phyto-Alimentary Lab. - General Properties of the Essential Oils

Antiseptic, Antibacterial, Antivenena, Antineuralgic, Antiparasitic, Antirheumatic, Antitoxic, Stimulant and Invigorating.

The aromatherapy is the technique that uses the curative properties of many essential oils to treat diseases.
In fact the essences has been used for a thousand year because of their antiseptic properties i.e they oppose the development of germs and kill them. Their antiseptic power is overriding even with different chemical composition and it comes out both through their vapour and through direct contact even if they are very diluted.

The essences which have the most antibacterical power are lemon, orange, lavender, mint, rosemary, eucalyptus, tea tree oil, mallow. That’s the reason why the nebulization through aerosol and spray in the radiator or humidifier is highly recommended in the rooms of sick people or in public offices (such as nurseries or primary schools ) as it performs both a preventive and a "curative" role.

The antiseptic e antibacterial power of the essences is very precious because it is inoffensive to healthy tissues.
Moreover the essence has an antitoxin property, i.e. it inactivates the products’capacity of damaging the cells.
Here follows now an example to better clarify the process: in the infected sores, the essences bind themselves to the toxins and activate them not in order to cover bad odours but to avoid a decomposition action. In fact the essences were largerly used in old times for the body embalmment.

Moreover the essential oils have antiparasitic properties through which they remove insects, moths, mosquitos and are used to treat pediculosis and scabies. The essences have also antitoxin and antivenen properties: they help to neutralize the poison of wasps, bees and spiders. Hunters used to rub some lavender on their dogs where the viper had bitten to inactivate its poison. Many essential oils have antirheumatic and antineurologic properties and are useful while treating painful joint pains. They have an effect locally through massages or compresses thanks to their high penetration into skin’s deep tissues. That’s the reason why the quality and purity of an essential oil are very important.

Most essences are stimulating and tonic as far as the endocrine glands are concerned and many of them have stimulating properties on the genital areas and on sexuality. The antispasmodic property is common in many essences and helps in treating situation of visceral spasm such as sob, colic, irritable colon, tendency to renal and hepatic colic.
